Shochiku has announced the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Fujimomom’s shōjo manga “Lovesick Ellie” (Koi Wazurai no Ellie), scheduled to premiere in Japan on March 15. The film stars Ryubi Miyase as Akira Ohmi and Nanoka Hara as Eriko Ichimura, both known for their roles in previous live-action productions.
Miki Kōichirō, director of the live-action 2020 adaptation of “Yowamushi Pedal,” helms the film with scripts penned by Satoko Okazaki. The duo Ryubi Miyase and Nanoka Hara previously collaborated in the live-action TV series “Night Doctor” and “Murai in Love.”
The manga, published digitally in English by Kodansha USA Publishing, follows the story of Eriko Ichimura, a high school student leading an inconspicuous life. Her mundane routine takes an unexpected turn when she discovers the true identity of Akira “Omi-kun” Ohmi, the object of her fantasies. The film explores their quirky romance amidst humorous twists and turns.
Fujimomo serialized “Lovesick Ellie” in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine from July 2015 to May 2020. The manga received praise and was nominated for Best Shōjo Manga in the 42nd Kodansha Manga Awards in 2018. The 12-volume manga concluded with its final volume released in October 2020.
As fans anticipate the live-action adaptation, the film promises to capture the essence of the manga’s endearing characters and comedic romance on the big screen.
